Abstract - Exact relaxation in topology optimization

Author: Michael Hintermüller

Title of the contribution: Exact relaxation in topology optimization

Abstract:
A new exact relaxation concept for topology optimization is introduced.
Exactness refers to the fact that a solution of the relaxed problem is also a solution of the original discrete-valued problem. The main proof-tool is the renowned co-area formula for BV-functions. Stability under additive perturbations and approximation properties of Tikhonov-type regularizations are discussed as well.
On the numerical side we highlight projected gradient techniques and semismooth Newton aspproaches for the solution of the relaxed problems.
