Abstract - Implementing topology optimization using the finite volume method

Author: Martin P. Bendsoe

Title of the contribution: Implementing topology optimization using the finite volume method

Abstract:
After a brief presentation of the setting of topology optimization some issues pertaining to the computational procedures in topology design for fluidics and transport problems will be discussed. The focus is the possible use of the Finite Volume Method as an alternative to the Finite Element Method for the analysis part of the nested optimization approach. Advantages and drawbacks will be outlined, based on the implementation in a simple heat conduction situation. Also, various settings of the fluid flow design problem will be summarized.
