Abstract
Photoacoustic and thermoacoustic tomography are new imaging technologies based on the measurement of sound waves generated in the interior of a body through the thermoelastic effect in response to an imposed radiation field. The inverse problem is to determine the absorption coefficient, which may appear as an initial condition or as a forcing term in the wave equation. We will discuss recent inversion formulas of filtered back-projection type in special domains when the wave speed is constant, and uniqueness results and approximate inversion when wave speed is variable.
