Modelling the initiation and positioning of arabidopsis trichomes
Workshop on Pattern Formation and Functional Morphology, Thu, 10 Jan, 2008
Speaker: Martin Hülskamp
Abstract
Arabidopsis trichomes are regularly distributed on the leaf surface. They are initiated at the base of growing leaves without an obvious reference to other structures on the leaf except for already existing trichomes. Genetic analysis has identified a number of patterning genes that eigher promote trichome formation or inhibit trichome formation. The current genetic and molecular analysis supports a model that explains the pattern by an activator-inhibitor model and a
substrate-depletion model.
