Workshop on Bioimaging II / PDEs, Thu, 22 Nov, 2007
Speaker: Joachim Weickert
Abstract
Tensor field data arise e.g. in medical applications
when diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging
(DT-MRI) is used, but also in motion analysis in image
sequences and in scientific visualization problems. It
is quite common that these matrix fields satisfy
additional constraints such as symmetry or positive
semidefiniteness.
In this talk a number of PDE-based and variational
methods for processing tensor fields will be surveyed.
They can be derived from their scalar-valued counterparts
by means of a structure tensor for matrix fields. It is
shown that all proposed filters preserve the positive
semidefiniteness of any positive semidefinite initial
tensor field.
Joint work with Bernhard Burgeth, Thomas Brox, Christian
Feddern and Martin Welk. Berhard Burgeth will present a
companion talk that extends these ideas.
