Estimation of 3-dimensional transducer pressure fields from Schlieren data

Workshop on Bioimaging I, Mon, 12 Nov, 2007

Speaker: Richard Kowar

Abstract

To ensure safety and optimal performance of medical ultrasound
transducers it is necessary to measure the acoustic pressure fields of
transducers.
For the estimation of such pressure fields we use light intensity data
that is obtained by a Schlierensystem.
Schlieren data corresponds mathematically to squared x-ray tomographic data.
Acoustic pressure fields attain positive and negative values, but only
the square of the line integrals are provided by the Schlieren
system. Therefore the signs of the line integrals are not known, and
Schlieren data cannot be reduced to data of classical X--ray CT.
In our numerical simulations we compare the loped Landweber-Kaczmarz method,
the Landweber method and the Levenberg-Marquard method.
