Workshop 2: November 11-15, 2013

Algebraic curves over finite fields

Organizers

Main topics

This workshop will focus on algebraic curves over finite fields and their applications, in particular to coding theory and cryptography.
The theory of algebraic curves over finite fields has its origins in number theory. However, many applications of curves were found in different areas such as coding theory, sphere packings and lattices, sequence design, quasi-Monte Carlo methods, and cryptography. The use of algebraic curves often led to better results than those of classical approaches.
The workshop shall present new developments and stimulate the interaction between the different application areas as well as the search for new applications. In particular, Workshop 4 with a focus on more classical methods is closely related. However, related algebraic geometric methods and constructions are also crucial for the other two workshops.
