Discrete Mathematics can be found in everyday life: in supermarket bar code scanners, in our cars’ GPS systems, in online banking, etc.
This research project focuses on application areas as cryptography, coding
theory and the analysis of pseudorandom number generators where methods from
discrete mathematics, as for example exponential sum techniques, are promising.
Special focus is put on finite fields and their applications, in particular
sequences in cryptography and numerical integration.
Further applications range from check-digit systems to quantum computation.
