Topics: Discontinuous coefficients, multigrid methods, domain decomposition methods, parallelization
Description
Elliptic problems with discontinuous coefficients arise from electromagnetic field problems, fluid dynamics, simulation of groundwater flow and many more applications. Domain decomposition methods, such as overlapping Schwarz or FETI-type methods, (algebraic) multigrid methods, special multilevel methods, and also discontinuous Galerkin methods exhibit great potential for solvers which are robust with respect to these discontinuities, in particular large coefficient jumps. Providing convergence theory for general coefficients is known as a challenging problem. However, in some directions recent advances have been made. Additionally, parallel aspects become increasingly important in modern scientific software due to the well-known limits of single-processor architectures. The aim of this miniworkshop is to bring together scientists from different fields and to provide a basis for discussion.
